An old hotel built at the turn of the century, which has seen better days. Now populated by remarkable figures and events, invented by 7 of Europe’s most talented emerging directors, choreographers and designers.

Each director creates a room, based on an overall storyline conceived by the Macedonian playwright Goran Stefanovski. The audience is guided in small groups through the hotel, witnessing this series of stories performed by 21 foreign actors and dancers together with a number of local actors and musicians.

Hotel Europa; a seedy and tragicomic hotel, encompassing the themes of loneliness, love, mobility, migration and homelessness.

HOTEL EUROPA performances:

"From the outside the place looks bleak and unfriendly. A neon light projected on it says HOTEL EUROPA. We enter it. It's the seedy world of the Railway Inn, the one-night-stand, the makeshift bed and breakfast on the outskirts of the town .We walk through the corridors in groups and move from one room to another. We sit on the beds and on the floor, We witness, in graphic details, the dramatic and intimate close-ups of the residents.

Europa has turned into a big waiting room, a lobby where long queues of people pray for their number to be up in the lottery for better "better future". They would give anything for a one way ticket out of the "world of transition".

We spend the evening inside this twitchy, dirty and invisible reality of the underbelly of Europe. And we get to know the big, all-too-human, sweaty and palpitating heart of our unwanted European brother: the immigrant, the refugee, the displaced and homeless." (From the project description).
Goran Stefanovski

The performance of V.Kairišs and I.Jurjāne in HOTEL EUROPA
Participating: 3 Latvian actors: Maija Apine, Andis Strods, Natālija Grebņeva

“The Europeretta composition is based on the classic methods for producing moonshine alcohol – the idea brews, the spirit are destilled, and the cooled revelations of alcohol are condensed through cathartic thirst.”
V.Kairišs

“The visual image of the performance must be like an obtrusive dream, one that you cannot forget. It must be close and far from reality all at once. You are in it; you try to find out what the signs that are given to you mean. Perhaps you just yield.”
I.Jurjāne
